Establishing regional factors for soil carbon stock changes in Brazil

Given Brazil’s importance as the world’s largest sugarcane producer, we conducted a meta-analysis (511 pairwise observations) to assess the impact of sugarcane cultivation on soil organic carbon (SOC) stocks. Based on the results, regional factors for SOC stock changes induced by land use change and management practices were established. We believe that these results can support policymakers and stakeholders seeking sustainability in the sugar-energy sector.
