This study observed that regardless of the feedstock used to produce biochar, applying biochar to soils was a feasible approach to mitigate N2O emissions and increase soil C levels without negative impacts on soil biodiversity. Biochar reduced soil N2O emissions from N fertilizers by 25 – 50%. These results should support the decision to use biochar in the field in a safer way with guaranteed environmental and economic benefits.
