Running the numbers on plant synthetic biology solutions to global problems

The publication addresses the fact that synthetic biology and engineering promise sustainable solutions to global problems. This promise is real, but scale matters, and so do the knock-on effects of the solutions. Fermi calculations can estimate scale and knock-on effects. We illustrate this with jet fuel from oilcane and N fixation in maize aerial roots. https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0168945223002327
